LONDON, 24th July. Great crowds witnessed the start and finish of the Aerial Derby, a 200-mile circuit from Hendon around London. Hawker was the favourite, and Hinckler next. Points of vantage along the course ■were thronged, particularly Epsom ■Downs. The weather was unsettled, and the wind strong. Visibility was good. There were fifteen starters, the limit' men including Hammersley and Hinckler, on Baby Avros. . They had such a long ; start that they completed the first circuit before the highest powered machines started.. F; Courtney, on a three-hundred horse-power Marfcynside de Semiquaver, won the Derby,"averaging 153£ miles an hour.

The handicap resulted in a win for Hammersley 'and Hinckler.

Courtney made a bad landing, and his machine hit the ground heavily and somersaulted. The pilot crawled out uninjured. Hawker was third to reach the aerodrome in the handicap, but was disqualified for taking tho wrong course.
