TRAMWAYS MILITARY BAND.

Before a crowded and most enthusiastic audience, the Wellington Municipal Tramways Military Band gave a. very successful Tecital in His Majesty's Theatve last night. The band, under the ca.pa.ble baton of Mr. G. W. Bowes acquitted itself admirably in a wel-I-chosen programme of "request" items. ■Suppe's airy and tuneful composition, "Poet and Peasant," always a. favourite was rendered with roundness of tone and modulation of volume. The audience was duly appreciative of the charming whistling lullaby, "Baby's Serenade," -which had to be repeated. This composition of W. Com was exceedingly well played. The march "La Garde Marine" was a fitting finale -to the band items. Special interest attached to the appearance of two talented' members of the English Pierrots, Miss Ena Gordon and Mr. David Lyle, an old favourite. Miss Gordon was heard in several weH-rendered songs. For "Nymphs and Sylvams shs ban to submit, V> aa encore, giving '■'Tvvas April." Later she eang Germans "Waltz Song," with its rather florid style and trills nicely emphasised, and as an encore "I Know a Lovely Garde*." Mr. Lyle sang "'Tie, the Day '; the encore number was "In the Great Unknown." As an encore to "Sacrament 1 ne delighted all with his singing of "Love Lily.- with Mjpa GovQon, Mr. Lyle sang,the duet "SnovvS''U wlV Clli la'L to be repeated.
