Each of the male Germans recently deported from Samoa who had a credit balance was given £100 prior to his departure, and a. proportionate allowance for his children. Those in less 'better circumstances received a compassionate allowance of £19 4s. In due course their personal possessions left behind will be assessed, and vouchers for such amounts will be forwarded' to Germany. Approximately, there are about 35 Germans still left in Samoa "who are married to Samoan or half-casto Samoan women. By virtue of this fact they are allowed to remain on good behaviour. One of the deportees is reported to have t&lcen. to the bush, and has been in safe hiding pending the departure of the transport. He will be deported latei on at his own expense.
The annual Dominion conference of the Farmers' Union will be opened in the Featheraton-street Farmers' Institute at 10 a.m. to-morrow Sir James Wilson will preside.
