Major C. H. Nutsford has been appointed superintendent of the Veterans' Home at Auckland.
Mr. J. D. Gray, Under-Seoretary for External Affairs, left Samoa by the Navua on Tuesday, and is expected in Wellington in about a fortnight's tame.
General William Bramwell Booth, of the Salvation -i.rirfy, has accepted an invitation to be the chief guest and speaker at a New Zealand Club luncheon on Friday, 18th instant.
The following' promotions and appointments in the Public Trust Office are announced:—Mr. S. J. Smith, assistant chief accountant in the head office; Mr. H. G. Shakes, district manager at Sydenham; Mr. W. J. Forsyth, district manager at Newmarket.
Mr. Raymond Fuller, house manager of His Majesty's Theatre, who is proceeding to Sydney to take up a position in the head office of the Fuller Proprietary, was farewelled by the theatre staff last night: On behalf of his colleagues, Mr. Charles Watson handed to Mr. Fuller a solid silver cigarette case, suitably inscribed as a token of the high esteem in which tho recipient was held by all.connected with the theatre. Mr. Watson also mentioned that Mr. Fuller had made himself most popular with all. A further eulogy was made by Mr. J. Porter. Mr. Fuller suitably replied. He will be succeeded at His Majesty's Theatre by Mr. E. Boland. , ■
On the occasion of his ninetieth birthday, celebrated recently, the Rev. James Paterson was the recipient of hearty congratulations from the Wellington Presbytery and many other friends. For many years he had charge of St. John's Church, Wellington, and etill holds the position of senior minister. He is enjoying very good health, and continues to do active ministerial work.
The death is announced of Mr. J. Wood, a prominent figure in Labour circles in Lyttolton for a great many years. Deceased was for some time president of the Lyttelton Waterside Workers' Union, and subsequently he was secretary of that body.
The funeral of the late Mr. Peter Still, who, up to the time of his death, was governing director of Messrs. W. LittleJohn and Son, • Ltd., took place this afternoon. Members of the Wellington Bowling Olnb acted as pall-bearers from the family residence, in Maaramacrescent, to the hearse, and several members of Messrs.. Littlejohn's staff, on the arrival of the cortege in the Karori Cemetery, carried the coffin to the graveside. Amongst those who attended the funeral were the whole of Messrs. Littlejohn's employees and a number of members of the Wellington Chess Club. Mr. Jefferies (son-in-law) nnd Mr. Haselden (brother-in-law), both of Hawkes Bay, were the chief mourners. The service was conducted by the Rev. Dr. Elliott and the Rev. H. W. Burridge. As a mark of respect the" Wellington Bowling Club's flag has been flown at half-mast. ,
