CALEDONIAN SOCIETY

A concert and picture entertainment was held last night at the Star Theatre, Jfewtown, in aid of the Pipe Band uniform fund. The hall was well filled. The orchestra, under their leader (Mr. J. M'Ghie),- provided music during the evening that was much appreciated. Miss' M!Keon played the accompaniments. The society's pipers and juven■ile dancers rendered items which were new^to a Newtown audience. Miss Roma Bitossi executed a clog dance and song in good style. Mr. Percy Martin was in fine voice, while Mr. V. .Brown played a- flute solo; all received as encoie. Altogether the Caledonian Society has every reason to be gratified with the evening's enjoyment and the enthusiasm shown. Another concert will be held at an early date.

The Christchurch branch of the National Council of Women recently decided to arrange for a. public meeting to be held in connection with the Cost of Living Problem, and it was decided to invito unafSliated societies to join in. "That the Christchurch branch of the National Council of Women is of opinion that where men are found guilty of sexual offences against children and defective girls, they should be segregated for life."'
