At to-day's meeting of the Canterbury I ■and JSoard an important discussion took place in respect of tmnsfero of Crown .leases carrying a large goodwill when the Lra-nrierer hao only held the lease loi" c. comparatively short period. Instances wove referred to in which lessees, who had only-held* their leaaea for ; less than one year,- had applied for transfers. In one case an increased goodwill of over £3000 was shown. The applicant had got a tvanafer from the previous lessee Jaat year, the goodwill paid bc;ng i33£CO. He was now asking £6700 as goodwill. '£he board, decided that it was eontrnry to the policy of tho Crown to allow trafficking in such leases, and in future the board will-not consider applications for tca-nete? unless the applicant has held the lease for at least two years, except very cpecial circumstances can be shown.
