WOMEN'S CAMPAIGN ORGANISED

The tangible result of the largely •'attended meeting held at the Pioneer Club last night was the unanimous passing of the tv«o following resolutions, and the initiation of a campaign which will start as soon as the Club Committee has given its assent. The first- resolution set forth : That this meeting promises to cooperate with and support the National Council of Women in its efforts to reduce the cost of the necessities of life. The second was as follows: — That the Pioneer Club and representative women present support the action of the Auckland and Dunedin women's clubs in pledging themselve.9 to refrain from purchasing non-neces-sitous articles until the cost of living has been appreciably reduced. A list was taken, round and signed by all present, and it was agreed to have the list on a table in the clnb to give opportunity to all members who were not present at the meeting to sign if they wished. Miss Coad, who had outlined the plans and work of the "Women's National Council in connection with the cost 'of living, agreed to bring before her council members the resolutions passed and ask their co-operation in getting signatures. There was deep interest- and strong feeling shown throughout the meeting, and among the speakers were. Mrs. Corliss, Miss Lyra Taylor,- Mrs. Coleridge, Mrs. Andersen, Miss Black, Mrs. J. Mackenzie, Mrs. Waters, and others. ■ ■ Ip the absence of Lady Stout, president of the club, Miss Amy ( Kane, a vice-president, was voted to the chair, and jti opening the meeting explained that (t had been called in response to members' request. It was felt that the Pioneer Club should support the action of women's clubs ir Auckland and Dunedin,. more especially as their actions had had a prompt result iii the reduction of certain inflated prices.
