Messrs. Riddiford Bros, have recently disposed; of Motuihi and the filly by Absurd—Graduate, purchased at the Koatonui yearling sales in February last. They are to go into C* Pritchard's stable. It is reported they will race in the interest of two local professional men, who 1 will be a. welcome addition to the ranks of local owners.
Demosthenes, who was shipped to Sydney to-day," is announced to-do service at the Kiora, Stud next season at a fee of 100 guineas. As Demosthenes was foaled in 1907, Mr. P. Miller should get his purchase money. back in a few seasons.
C. Pritchard; is taking Avch Lassie, Matatua, and Esperance to Otaii for the handicap events. .The trainer named has three horses entered for the Maiden, and will probably take Reparation and Gold Pan.
Swanee River has been, thrown out of training, and will not, be asked to race again this season. The writer understands.that -Demosthenes has been insirred for £5000— the amount of his purchase money—on the trip to .Sydney. J. Lows and J. Ayres ha-ve returned home to Trentham without the members of their teams they took to the 'Royal Mpetinpf. Royal Exchange, the only member of Lowe's team engaged at Otaki, wilt go up in charge of H. Telford. The; only member of Ayres's team, engaged at the Maori Meeting is Bonnie Maid, who' is stiil held up at E-iccarton. It lpoks. therefore, as if "Mr. Soames" will not bfc represented at the meeting.
Two members of ■A. Goodman's team, Trentham Rose and Gold Coast, were sent over the pony hurdles at headquartors yesterday, and got round safely with W. Yo'Jns in the saddle. Ihirint; H. M'Sweeney's absence in tlie South with -Seadowri and Coalition, W. O'K«1----loran has jumped Falstaff and Mannish. Both horses s;ave sjood displays. Bo Peep and Fltglit Commander have returned to Trentham after an unsuccessful trip to 'Wanganni. On his form at file meeting named Flight Commander is not much good, and it looks as if his inta owner (Mr. Lnttrell) showed good j'.id^ment in parting with him. They a.re both to race at Otaki, and Militaire will also make the trip.
Four members of J. W. Lowe's team —rising two-year-olds-—are worked of an afternoon at Trentham. Chakwana's first foal, a colt by Kiferoney, might easily be mistaken foi* his dam. He works with the Boniform—lnnocence co!t, ?.lso a brown, differing from the majority of the Boniforms in colour. The two New South Wales. purchases, who work together, are better grown. The Buckwheat colt is a bay and the lSstdolph colt a brown. They are putting in plenty of work, am! the most forward of the lot will,no doubt be required for tfco early spring meeting*. The team has had to bf. refluced to mako room for tli« voiinc ones. A new patron of C. PniI'hard's stable, has purchased Mobafel and a youngster by Absurd.
