CARRIERS' CHARGES

TO BE INCREASED. The Wellington Master Carriers have come to the conclusion that a, rise in carrying charges is necessary if ends are to be met, and ai> a. meeting of their association this morning it was decided from June Ist next to charge increased dunnage rates, and also to apply to the City Council to have the rates chargeable by the hour raised. The association explains that the move is necessary owing to increased wages and the high oost of horse feed. ■- The wages have increased by 10s per man per week in the last five, months. Chaff, which six months ago could be bought for £8 15s per ton, now cost £13 7s 6d. The committee of the association will. meet tomorrow and discuss matters of general interest to carriers.
