THE MONEY MARKET. • LONDON, 20th May. Bank of England rate, unchanged, at 7 per cent.; three months' bills are 6J per cent., a fall of 10s on thQ week. Short loans are 5J per cent., a fall of 2s 6d on the week. . The Department of Agricnlutre has received the following cablegram, dated 21st inst., from the High Commissioner for New/Zealand, London :—"Hemp: Manila market is easier; poor demand early this week, but fair business has been done later at lower prices. < "J" grade, February to June shipments, sold £63; JuiySeptember shipment about £65 10s; New Zealand market quiet, and prices unchanged. Honey: Feeling in market is better though demand has been chiefly for low grade. New Zealand unchanged, but prospects are favourable.", ' . • . ■ |
