INFLUENZA

INCREASE IN MILD CASES For the week ending noon yesterday 1149 cases of influenza were notified in the Wellington health district. This was an increase qf 351, compared with figure:; for the previous week. Of the latest notifications 1112 were classified as mild; 24 as pneumonic; and 13 ns severe. The pneumonic oases were reported from the following localities':— Danneurke, 1: Hawera, 1- Sapanga, 2; Eltham, 7; Wanganui, 3; Wellington city, 3: Lower Hutt. 2; Porirua, 1; Martinborough, 1; Carterton, 1; and Pongaroa,' 2 V An increase is also' reported in the number of cases of pneumonia, 23 notifications having been received last week, as against-8 for .'the previous week. Faris) stated yesterday that though the number of influenza notifications continued to be high, it was reassuring to note that the ratio of pneumonic, cases to mild forms of disease remained: low. The pneumonic cases were really the true index to the influenza position. While the' ratio of pneumonic cases was low, j the situation could be held to be satisfactory.
