FIXED PRICES.

FEILDING, This Day.
The Wellington Provincial Conference of the Farmers' Union opened at Feilding to-day. Mr. 6. L. Marshall (Marton) presided, and there was a full attendance of 60 delegates.
The President, in his annual address, announced his retirement, after . several years' service. After a general review of the difficulties facing the farming community. Mr. Marshall concluded : "Above all, let us continue to work together, not for selfish aims, but' for vriiat we consider to be for the welfare of the whole community." The financial membership of the union, had increased by over 500 members during the year, the largest increase ever known.
There was a long discussion on the question of fixed prices, and the following motion was carried : "That this conference suggests to the Government that, taking into consideration the necessity of encouraging the growing of- wheat for local consumption, the price of wheat shall be fixed on a minimum basis instead of a maximum, as has obtained hitherto."
Conference also decided in favour of a continuation of the commandeer of meat until the present position has been relieved. It was stated that if this was not secured the country would face a serious financial crisis. .'
