TRAM TRAFFIC

I TO THI EDITOR. Sir, —While on the matter o£ Mr. Morton's observations abroad re tramway traffic, I would mention a French innovation. In Paris the carriages in the underground system are so constructed that the seats during rush hours can bo doubled back against the sides, and in the few minutes to and from lunch everyone stands. Considering the anything but pleasant experience under present conditions, one might just as well stand as bo seated. Besides allowing of a very much larger carrying capacity the French idea helps to cultivate a spirit of reasonableness among the people, of mutual advanI tage where expedition is required.—l am, M. P. NAUGHTON. 23rd May.
