A TOTAL WRECK
AORERE ASHORE ON RANGITIKEI BEACH. News was received in Wellington to-day that the small steamer Aorere, recently purchased by Hatrick and Co. for the Blenheim-Wanganui trade, was a total wreck on Rangitikei beach. No ,further particulars are to har.d, but it is presumed that the vessel went ashore during the heavy gale of the past few days. The Aorere was apparently bound- from Blenheim to Wanganui with a cargo for the Steel Pipe Company, Wangamii.
The Aorere if \vell-known_in Wellington, having been employed for some time in the harbour ferry service as a freight carrier. She passed out of the hands of the Eastbourne Borough Council in November last. . The Aorere is a vessel ofi 76 tons gross, and is close on thirty yeara old. Her principal dimensions are as follow: Length, 82 feet ; breadth, 14 feet. Some years ago she was employed in the Patea trade.
