(Received May 24, 1.30 p.m.)

NEW YORK, 22nd May. An official announcement from Mexico City states that Carranza and a number of his companions were killed during an attack by General Herrara at Tlaxcalaltongo, in the Puebla mountains. Unofficial reports state that five companions with Carranza were killed. These are supposed to include Cabrera, Seecretary to the Treasury; Barragan, Chief of Staff; Berlang'a, Premier; aJid Bonillas, formerly Ambassador to the United States. The names require confirmation. It is stated that General Herrara laid a plot, and led the forces which killed Carranza's party. It is also alleged that Herrara personally killed Carranza while he was asleep.

General Obregon has issued a statement that ■ Carranza was assassinated 'by his own men under Herrara, a former Federal soldier of the Diaz regime. He scathingly upbraids Carranza's followers for permitting the assassination. Obregon telegraphed to his representatives in Washington announcing the complete pacification of Mexico. The revolution, he states, has consummated the efforts to establish a real republic. Telegraphic and railway commmiica-tion have been re-established throughout the, country.

(Received May 24, 2.45 p.m.)

MEXICO CITY, 23ra May. Carranza's body has arrived. A private interment will be permitted.
