OLYMPIC HARRIERS
The two and a-half mile novice race was held last Saturday from the Miramar tram terminus. The runners, to the number of 15, were despatched on their journey by the president (Mr. W. H. Philp), and followed an ideal course, which was selected by Messrs. Alabaster, Wilson, Cook, and Donaldson. The course led through the Chinamen's garden at the top of Wonderland through the cow yards as far as the Gas Works, then home via the road at the back of the old polo ground. Burns, the limit man, was soon displaced by Kerr, with one of the back markers, Caldwell-pook, close up. The balance of the runners were not far away, with Kuch and K. Beaglehole showing up. The final result was:— Wilkinson, 20sec, 1; K. Beaglehole, 20sec, 2; Caldwell-Cook, 45sec, 3. The fastest time was done by Wilkinson, 19min 2Ssec. After the run, the.members sat down to afternoon'tea. Mr. Philp and the captain (Mr. W. Scratchard) congratulated the runners.
