.Aeroplanes bombed the enemy positions, and assisted onr crossing of the Beresina River. (Received M-.iv 24. 9 a.m.) ' LONDON, 21st May. A Bolshevik communique states: "We are energetically advancing in the Polotsk region, having reached a line ten miles south-west of Polotsk. We occupied several villages further west. We stopped and forced the Tchernitza River.' Stubborn BghtinK occurred on the right bank of the Beresiifa River. We occu pied several villages. A particularly fierce engagement in the direction of Ihnman resulted in our favour. Elsewhere the advance is developing satisfactorily. .
