The presentation of a Morris chair to Mr. E. Quinlan, who is to retire at the end of this month from the service of the Wellington Harbour Board, was made in the- rooms of the Merchant Service Guild this morning. The chair was purchasedl by the masters of the guild, and was given to Mr. Quinlan as an evidence of their appreciation of his services in connection with the berthing of their vessels. The. presentation was made by the president of the guild (Captain J. T. King), who with Captain Macindoe (secretary) made very complimentary remarks regarding the manner in which Mr. Quinlan had discharged his important duties for a number of years past.
Extensive thefts of goods'from Messrs. Beath and Co.'s big Christchurch drapery establishment have been admitted by David Victor Gregeon, an exemployee of the firm. In the Christchufch Court last Friday Gregson was charged with hiving stolen from his late employers, en divers dates between 29th September, 1919. and 7t!T May, 1920, silk, orepe-de-'chine. muslin, .suitings, overcoating twerd. satin, and 1 dress material of a total value of £224 3s Bd. Accused was committed for trial.
