OBITUARY
REV. WILLIAM DOUGLAS.. Word has been received of the death of the Bey. William Douglas, M.A. yesterday at his residence, Hastings.' ' The late Mr. Douglas was one of the outstanding figures in Presbyterian Assemblies for many years, and his. kindly nature endeared him to his associate's and all those to whom he. ministered. Air. Douglas was 83 years of age, and was ordained and .indicted to the charge of Akaroa. in 1874. He was in Hokitika, from'lßßl to 1907. and resigned to take charge of the new parish of Evans Bay in 1907. In 1913 he retired from active duties, and has resided sines in Havelock and Hastings, where he has done much work for the Church as a. relieving minister. Mr. Douglas' was Moderatqr of the General Assembly in 1882, and ■was for many years convener of the Assembly Committee for Missions amongst the Chinese of New Zealand. His scholastic attainments were of avervhifli order, and he was an authority on Greek literature. Mr. Douglas was a widower, and loavps two daughters, the Misses Mary and Maggie Douglas.'
