The daughter of the house was engaged in a desperate endeavour to drag conversation from the silent young man, when tho pianola in the lounge began to play an air from one of Meyerbeer's operas. "Don't you love Meyerbeer?" she asked hopefully. "I have never touched mtoxicant9 in nly life," replied the young man coldly.
