CHILDREN'S DAY

FINAL MEETING OF THE . COMMITTEE. The final meeting of the committee 'which had charge of the school children's reception on the occasion of, the visit of the Prince of Wales, was held last night in . the Education Board offices. Mr. ,Thos. Forsyth (chairman of the Education' Board) presided. It was reported that the official parade states showed that there were 12,828 children on parade and 879 teachers and committee men. The total cost of the refreshments was £398 4s #d. Assuming that the country children received two meals during the day, it is estimated that 1 the cost per head was between 6id and 6|d. Satisfaction was expressed at the excellent manner in which the various tradespeople catered, and a special vote of thanks was passed to Mr. John Dineen (Education Department) for his invaluable service as commissariat officer. The expenses of the committee incurred in connection, with other matters amounted to £552 9s 3d, the chief items being banners to schools, £208 18s; souvenir <-ards, £184 18s; ribbon, £(A 11s 6d. ' •' Letters of appreciation at the success attending the children's parade wer» read from the Education Board, School Committees' Association, and others. Votes of thanks were passed to the City Council and the Harbour Board for financial assistance; to Mr. Robert Parker ; to the Ladies' Auxiliary of . the Navy League; to the members of the Navy League and the Wellesley Club; to, the Tramways Department, Public Works Department,' and Railway Department ; to Captain. Gregory (assistant wharfinger) ; to the officials of the Pipitea and King's Wharf sheds ; to the members of the -Miramar Band ; and to the teachers, school committee men, and school children.
