BY AEROPLANE TO MOUNT COOK
AN INTERRUPTED FLIGHT.

TIMARU, 20th May. Captain Euan Dicksdn was to have flown from Sockburn Aerodrome to Tut. Cook and back to Fairlie to-day. A wintry storm delayed the start from Sockburn from 8 till 11 o'clock, and two hours were lost on the way to Fairlie, a descant being made at Pearse's farm, Waitohi, for petrol, driving against a head wind having run the supply short. Ho., expected at starting to reach Fairlie at 12.30 p.m., and a large''number of people, including many by car from Timaru, awaited his arrival in a- keen winter day, the surrounding hills being white to the foot. The Avro hove in sight over the Brothers Hill , (3000 ft) about 3 p.m., and after some fancy
"stunts," a good landing was effected in a paddock near thos township. Captain. Dick-son stated that \he had had ' a 30----mile wind against him. The actual flying time for the 100 miles \vas.2f houi'fi. The pilot and the phsspngers, Miss R. Wijjley and R. L. Banks, stated that they enjoyed the trip despite the cold at an average height of 3000 ft, Thtcourse ran just seaward of Geraldine and across the Waitc-lii Downs and up the Totar-a Valley. Snow fell at the Herniitago in the morning, but Inter on itcleared. Fine weather is expected tomorrow, and a start will be made for Mount Cook at 8 a.m.
