"Miss Gold p:;id a double-figure dividend. .Her owner- ivss not present to see her win. Egmont Park was paying half as much again. With tho exception of Kinsem, none of the fancied candidates was ever prominent. Tho running of both Bindle and Bo Peep greatly disappointed their connections. .

The Auckland-owned First Cail via 3 prominent with Silent Dick and Sir Donald, who took "charge Sat' half-way and was well clear as they swung into the straight. Only seven' of the twelve acceptors for the Wanganui- Steeplechase were paraded. Master Strowau, Gang Awa', oi4 JJungir.di, Yankee Jack, and First Call were taken out. It was a good betting race, only a few pounds separating Maraetotara.^ Gladful, and Vi'irokino, who were backed in that order. The field gave a good *' exhibition of jumping. Folthoguo ">va.» first beaten, after being with' First Line from the start. The latter was challenged by Wirokino And Ma-raetotara, but shook them both off and won eaf.ily irom Wirokino, whq wa.s out-jumped by the winner at several fences. Gladful, who., was going on at the finish, beat 'Manhattan for third money. /Polthogue parted company with his rider half a. mile from home, .but the others all finished,. First Line is trained at Foxton, and is a member of the Advunce-Balkrut, family. Lochella, Applaud, and Student were withdrawn from the Kaitoke flack Hurdles Handicap. Tna Tere finished up favourite. A hundred yards from the post Rude looked like scoring, but in the ruu hc^me Marqueteur gradually wore him down and won by .a head. Punl<a was third and Depreciation foivrth. Marqueteur, who recently won a double at Egtncnt, has won tho. race two years in succession. Rude carried more than double the amount invested on Marqueteur, who paid a great price.
