Marshal Foch, speaking at the Ecole Polytechnique, said: "Who dares-be-iieye that Germany will renounce war? It.jwas her national industry, and is inspired by sheer ambition. Germany's neighbours must keep up their armies, and maintain strong frontiers, in spite of the generous intentions of civilised humanity, because there are historic realities as well as geographical."
