MR. ALFRED MACE
. Numerous audiences wore present,'at the Empress Theatre on Sunday to listen to addresses by Mr. Alfred Mace. In the afternoon ho spoke on "The Lord's Oominjr," and in the evening on "Creation, Salvation, Translation." Tho meetings will be continued during the week on Tuesday and Thursday, m the Gospel Hall, Vivian-street.
When the peculiar name of Poff was mentioned by counsel in his recital of fiicte in a case before the Court of Appeal to-day, the Bench was at a less for a. moment as to its purport. Counsel explained that the name was that of a person employed in the sale of stock and property. "Had he been called 'Puff.' I should, have said," added counsel, "that the name vn» more harmonious and in keeping with his calling."
A dangerous weed which appears-to be spreading in Taranaki is the star thistle (cetaurisa caleitr.ipa,). The dry leaves -of the plant get. into sheep's wool and the tails of cattle, and cause great irritation.
