Amongst those who, returned by tbe steamer Stella, which arrived at Port Chalmers last week from the Campbell Islands, was Mr. A. Nicolson, who ha* beei? managing affairs'at the Islands for the past two and a-ha,lf years. He reported that the past season had been a most successful one. The sheep were in splendid condition; in fact, the 8000 head grazing there were in as good condition as any to be found in any part of Ntw Zealand. The lambing season was also most satisfactory, the mortality being very small. The sheep country was improving every year, and there was feed in abundance. The wool had. dipped very satisfactorily. The weather had been very seasonable during the past few months, and there had been very little snow. The five men who returned, four of whom had been employed in mustering and shearing for five months, are in splendid health. Four men were left on the islands to carry on operations. All the rookeries, as seen from the cliffs, were crowded with seals, and a few seaelephants had landed on the island, which' was a very raxe occurrence.
