SOLDIERS' HOSTEL
The annual meeting of the Returned Soldiers and Sailors' Hostel Society (Wellington-terrace) was held last' evening, there being a small attendance. Mr. H. Helliwell presided. In the annual report it was stated that during the past year the work of the hostel had been trebled, yet very small additions to the staff had been made. During 1919-20, 43,945 meals and 13,392 beds were supplied, only 80 meals and 80 bed* being unpaid for. In 1916-17 the numbers were 13,921" meal* and 4724 beds paid for, and 1931 meals and 685 beds unpaid for. The society had been unable to obtain sufficient funds for the erection of a suitable home to accommodate crippled men working in the large offices, especially the Government offices, in
The profit and loss account showed a lons of £323 18s lid, as compared with the loss of £499 for the previous year.
The following officers went elected :— Patroness, Mrs. T. H. Lowry; president, Miss P. Myers; hon. secretary, Mrs. Bowden; Management Committee, Mes dames Eadcliffe; Scotlr, Irvine, Frost, Hylton,. Moore, W. I. Nathan, a.nd Misses M'Gregor, Dowdeswell, and Bright. The Board of Control elected consists of the following:—Messrs. P. C. Watt, M. Myers, J. Mills, G. Sykes, M.P., B Sutherland, H. Helliwell, Major Vine, and Mesdames Bowden, Rudoliffe, and Miss P. Myers. Mr. D. Steward was electcd'treasurer, and Mr. Dalziel auditor.
