PERSONAL MATTERS
The Hon. D. G-uthrie returned to Wellington last evening frara Feilding. The Hon. Sir Walliani Herries (Minister for Native Affairs) is at present a Rotorua, completing details in connection with the visit of the Prince of Wales. Mr. T. 0. Pox, engineer to the Miramar Borough, is at present confined to liie bed with influenza. Mr.' F. W. Fairey, the well-known judge, of stock, accompanied by a party of* buyers, arrived from Nelson this ■m.ornin<- on the way to Wanganui to attend the sale of Mr. F G. Moore's Hereford stud. Mr. John H. Tait, of the well-known theatrical firm of J. and N. Tait, arrived by the Moeraki from Sydney yesterday. Hia visit is made in connection with the forthcoming tour of New Zealand for a new company under the title of Tait's ComeHy-Drama Players. It is the firm's intention to provide attractions in New Zealand more frequently than has been the case in the past. ■
An ex-Imperial officer, Captain 6. W. Hawkesby, died in Auckland last week; Captain Hawkesby, who was born in County Leitrim, Ireland, belonged to the 2nd Battalion o£ the 18th Royal Irish Regiment, and fought through the Maori War, at the conclusion of which he was the last surviving officer of the regiment. He returned to England with his regiment, but some years ago came out to New Zealand with his family.
Captain Kenneth Basil Murison, M.0., son of Mrs. E. Murison, of Christchurch, was drowned early in March at Elmwood, Melbourne, where he was staying • with his wife. Captain Murison held a commission in the Indian - Army, and was on furlough. At the outbreak of the war, while visiting Melbourne, he enlisted with the 2nd Infantry Battalion (machine-gun section), and • was at' Gallipoli and in France, where he was decorated for 'bravery.
