BREACH OF PROBATION
Having committed a breach of his probation order, Arthur Miles appeared before his Honour Mr. Justice Hosking at the Supreme Court to-day for sentence. Miles appeared in Court on Tuesday last, but an was\made pending inquiries as to his behaviour in Martinborough, and as to statements he had made regarding payments to his sister-in-law. Mr. 'J. Prendeville represented the Crown, and Mr. P. J. O'Began appeared for the prisoner.
Constable Dick, stationed at Martinborough, gave details a« to an interview with Miles's former employer, who had sent several cheques during the last 12 ■months to a Mrs. S. Miles,, of Wellington, and witness also related" the circumstances of the theft which had been committed at Featherston. The cheques, with one exception, were endorsed when seen at the bank.
Mr. P. J. O'Regan stated that Miles had employment to go to, and thought that an extension of the probation order would meet the case.
As the man seemed to have contributed well to his sister-in-law, and as be appeared to be a capable worker his Honour decided to extend the period of probation for another two years, on the conditions laid down in the previous order.
