AUCKLAND MYSTERY

INVESTIGATIONS IN SYDNEY. (UNITED MESS ASSOCIATION;—COPIRIGKT.) SYDNEY, 23rd March. The police are making investigations regarding the death of Trooper Sim, ■whose body was found in Auckland Harbour. Detectives searched the Maheno on arrival, but were unable to trace the person wanted. (BI TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.) AUCKLAND, This Day In connection with the above cable in reference to the Sims case, and a statement that the police searched the Maiieno at Sydney and were unable to trace the person wanted, it transpires that the latter has no connection with the Sims, case, but is wanted for another matter. [The body of an Australian trooper, William Henry Marwick Sim, was found in Auckland .Harbour last Wednesday. Subsequent to the holding of an inquest it was discovered that a £100 bank-note, known to have been in possession of deceased, had been cashed by another person, whereas only £4 Is 9d was found on the body. The Coroner ordered a post-mortem examination, and the: head was found to bear marks which might have been caused by a blow or fall, while it is understood that, there were other indications not inconsistent with the theory of foul play. A further development was the arrest on a charge of theft of the £100 note, of Oscar Paul Fairburn, aged 32, who was a fellow-passenger of deceased by the Ulimaroa from Australia. As tha matter stands at present the inquest is adjourned, and Fairburn is remanded in. custody on the theft charge.]
