NOTES AND COMMENTS

(II "6IR LANCELOT.")

The secretary of the Wellington Racing Club calls attention to the fact that the Pacific Handicap (the fifth race on the second day of the club's A.utumn Meeting) is for two-year-olds only. This particular was omitted accidentally from tho printed programme. The date for receipt of nominations for all 'events at the Auckland race meeting to be held in honour of the visit of the Prince of Wales has been extended till Friday at 5 p.m.

Tho well-known Waikato owner-trainer R. Hannon is having a. successful run with Queen 'Abbey- and King ■ Abbey. Both were successful on the opening day of the Te Afoha Meeting. They were ,also successful on both days of the Ohinemuri Meeting. King Abbey is by Quin Abbey—St. Crispin mare and Queen Abbey by Quin Abbey—Breedom mare. R. Hannon has also been winning with two , other members of the Quin Abbey tribe at Auckland country meetings. Tinohoro (a full-brother to Queen Abbey) won at Thames, and Oak Abbey (Quin Abbey—Waimangu) at Ohinemuri. King Abbey and Queen Abbey are in the Auckland Easter Handicap .with handy imposts. Percy Johnson appears to have got hold of a useful gelding in Te Toa (Red Rain—lona). After running unplaced in the Hurdles at Opunake,'he came out later in the day and won a Welter Handicap. Te Toa and Movement (who ran second in the Opunake Cup) are to compete in the'hurdle races at Feilding at Easter time. ■ ,

Ruatara, who has been performing well at Auckland country meetings, was handicapped at 6.7 in the Auckland Easter Handicap, but has incurred a 31b penalty.

F. Christmas, who -will prepare Arrowsmith for the C.J.C. Easter Handicap, also has Fiery Cross in the race. R. Barlow, the New Plymouth ownertrainer, scored his first win:with Valencia (Solferino—Anitea), in the Maiden Plate at Opunake. Valencia cost Mr. G. D. Greemvood 200 guineas as a yearling, and is a cast-off from R. J Mason's stable.

Marconi, winner of both steeplechase events at the.Thames Meeting, is not in tho Autumn Steeplechase at Ellerslie, but is in the Brighton Hurdles. Mr. Pat Scally' has had a great run with Esthonia (Elysian—Boronia) this season. He started racing early in the term and scored his first win in the Avondale Guineas in September. Since then he has done some travelling and racing, and has placed the respectable sum of 1710 soys to his owner's credit.

General Advance (Advance —Electra) is putting up quite a respectable win; ning record at Auckland country meetings. He won the Piako Hack Handicap at'Te Aroha, a welter handicap at Thamas, and the SFothe'rfcon Welter Handicap at Ohinemuri. , Probably because he has not raced since the Grand National Meeting, Polthogue (Patronus —Sylvia Park mare) was not fancied for the Hurdles at Opunake, and returned his supporters a good price. Polthogue did well in steeplechase events last winter, his prin-' cipal win being in the Hawkes Bay Steeplechase. A paragraph, .has been going the rounds to the' effect that Nobleman had not ,won a race since he scored at the Rangitikei Meeting a, year ago. This is not so,,as he was successful in the -Waipipi Handicap at Master-ton at :'£ho beginning of the season. Income, who put down.several more fancied candidates in the St. Patrick's Handicap: 1 afc, Opunake, is a thrse-year-old gelding..by Guianforte—Pommery, who produced another smart, sprinter in Play Off. Pomniery ran second in a maiden plate at Opunake, but the writer cannot remember her winning a race. She was a daughter of . Johnny Faa (Trefoil —La Bohemienne), who won a lot of races on the West Coast for Mr. Pat O'Neill about the. same time Mr. Tim O'Neill was scoring with Epilogue.
