LONDON, 20th March.
A Berlin message reports that the Government has accepted the.workmen's terms and the general strike has been settled.
(Received March 22, 9 a.m.)
LONDON, 20th March,
The announcement that the German strike is settled affords a ray of hope that the chaos, will be ended and Constitutional Government firmly esta.blish.ed;' but earlier messages to-day indicated an alarming drift towards civil war and treated doubt- whether the Extremists will recognise the settlement. The storm centre of the revolt shifted yesterday from Berlin to the industrial West, where the. Spartacists and Communist's, taking advantage of the xmsettled conditions, are making efforts to' establish a form of Bolshevism. They have already overrun the whole of the Ruhr district, and have met with a remarkable series of successes, in consequence of which the "Red Army" has now swelled to 100,000 men, armed with guns, and armoured cars, and even tanks. . • ',■■..'.■
