ORGAN RECITAL

The wet weather considerably reduced the attendance at the recital given by Mr. Bernard F: Pago at the Town Hail on Saturday night, but there was a fair audience, nevei-theless, and the fine programme of modern music was listened to with marked attention and appreciation. The first number was the third movement of Kinsky-Korsakoff's "Scheherazade" Suite, and Mr. Page has seldom played it better, the registration being again a special feature.' Debussy's "En. Batea-u" was delightful, notwithstanding a little trouble caueod by the organ "cyphering." A Choral (No. 3, in A minor) by Cesar Franck, was perhaps the most important number played,, and might be repeated soon with, advantage. Parts of it are suggestive of Bach (in the Buxtehude period), and the melodious middle section is particularly good. Two works by Rebikoff, both new to Wellington, followed. They were the Miniature (No. 2 of Op. 30) —a lovely little thing—and the hizarre "Danse dcs Odalisques," in which the Oriental colouring was excellent, the gong effect being unmistakable. Glazounov's Prelude and Fugue in D Major is a piece of sound organ work, and makes; one regret .that it is his only composition for the organ. The second part of the recital consisted of a very pleasing Pastorale by Claussman, and, the "Waldweben" scene from, Wagner's "Siegfried," with its sudden tragic disturbance of.the peaceful murmurings of the forest glade, hitherto only broken by the calls of the feathered songsters.
