A POST-WAR LINER.

The Anchor ' Line's twin-screw gearedturbine steamer Cameronia, which was launched on 22nd December from Messrs. Beardrnore and Co.'s naval construction works on the Clyde, is the first of the United Kingdom's post-war large passenger ships to be floated. The vessel was laid down on 7th March, so that it has taken the firm jnot much more than nine months to carry her construction to the launching stage. The Cameronia is 578 ft 6m long over, all, and is capable of carrying 11,000 tons deadweight. Her groe6 measurement is about 16,500 tons. There is 1 accommodation on board for about 265 first-class and 370 second-class pae6engere, in two-berth and four-berth cabins, and for about . 1150 third-class passengers in two-berth, four-berth, and six-berth cabins. For the firet-claes passongers a large lounge, sm'okoroom, writing room, gymnasium, and verandah cafe are pro. vided; also a large dining saloon capable of seating about 220 persons at one time. Tho second-class dining saloon has s, seat-ing-capacity; of about 500 persons; in the second-class accommodation there are also a lounge- and ■ a emoke-room. For thirdclass passengers there are two large dining saloons, capable of seating 500 persons in all; in addition, there are two general rooms, a ladies' room and a smoke-room. The , propelling machinery consists' of Brown-Curtis .turbines and three doubleended ■■ and three single-ended boilers. The boilers have been designed to burn oil fuel, but may be readily converted to burn. coal. Howden's forced draught and superheaters of th« smoke tube type, have been installed. The machinery is capable of developing. 13,500 shaft horso-power,- and 'it; is estimated that the vessel will maintain a speed on .service of about .seventeen knot 3in moderate , weather. Sii.
