The monthly sitting of the Petone Magistrate's Court was held to-day, beJore Mr. E. Page, S.M.
A first offender charged with drunkenness was convicted, and fined 10s.
Rupert R. Booth, for boarding a train at Lower Hutt while it was in motion, was fined 40s, with. 7s costs. Failure to attend drill cost Percy Cotter 40s, and 7s costs.
H. G. Young was ordered to pay the sum of £5, with 28s costs, for failure to connect a property with the borough sewerage system. CIVIL BUSINESS. Judgment by default was given in the undefended case Petone Borough Council v. Tamalure Ruuraugi, for £4 11s lid, with 10s costs. I. J. Colbeck was ordered to give Fred Brough ]wsse:"sic:i of a horse and express within seven days, and pay £3 4s costs. In a judgment summons ca.se, G. G. Martin was ordered to pay George Cochrane the sum of £3 7s 8d within one month or suffer four days', imprisonment.
Twenty-nine' miners, accompanied by 16 wives and 12 children, arrived in New Zealand last night. They will considerably relieve the shortage of miners in Now Zealand, and should prnvo a. vnlu-.able-help, fe.ttift. coaljaiaJiig^iftdußtyy^..,
