A NEW COALING STATION

The officers of tlie Voi'.era'l n-nd Shire liner KiiFsex are enthusiastic abc.it tlie prospects of the coal port of Louishffi-fi, in Cape Breton Island, v.-hioli is to be tlie future coaling station of the Atlantic vessels. The Sussex lays claifn.to being the first vessel of any size to cuter the port for the purpose of coaling, but their eiample- seems to have been followed tiy a numbes of Atlantic liners. The New Zealand Shipping Company's liner Bimutitka, now completing her loading at Wellington, is to leave here about Friday for Southampton and London, via Panama and way ports.

THE STRANDING OF THE LILY

The Marine Department has decided that no Magisterial inquiry into the stranding of the schooner Lily at Vesthaven is necessary. The mishap was purely accidental, and no blame was attached to anyone.

MAPOUMKA FUMIGATED,

When the Hapourlka arrived from Lyttelton yesterday morning it was found that a member of the crew was suffering from a mild attack of influenza. The patient was afterwards removed to the Hospital/ and the vessel thoroughly fumigated before she sailed for New Plymouth shortly after, midnight last night.

THE SUSSEX,

The Federal-Shire boat Sussex, which arrived at Auckland from 'Jew Tosk on Saturday, is due at Wellington on Monday next. The vessel had an uneventful journey from New York, although the voyage from England to that port was .accompanied by. had weather.. The' Sussex left London on the -14th November, going to Avonmouth, ■■where she loaded corrugated iron, and proceeded to Louisburg, Cape Breton Island, where she. arrived-on the loth December, being-six days overdne.-- They spent some ten days in New York, and finally cleared Panama on the 10th January. From Auckland they go to' Wellington, Melbourne, and Sydney. They have some 8000 tons of cargo, of which .1600 are for Auckland. It is expected that discharge there will take about four days.

THE M3LGANTIC.

The White Star liner Megantic (advise Dalgetj and Co.) will come to Wellington, and not to Auckland on her way from Sydney to Panama, West Indies, and New York. Bunker supplies and passengers will ha taken, ou board at Wellington, where she is dm early in March.

The Government steamer Hlnemoa will be overhauling buoys at. Kaipara until the end of this week, and will not reach Wellington until the middle of next week,

Dalgety and Co. adyise that the IT. S. and A. chartered steamef Liberty is to sail tomorrow for Lyttelton, Dunedin, Sydney, and Melbourne, to complete discharge of her New York cargo.

Tho Tarawera is to leave Wellington tomorrow with general cargo for Sydney, where she will load for Bluff and Dunedin.

The Whakatane was to have come out of dock at. Port Chalmers last evening, and was timed to sail this, morning for Melbourne and Sydney to complete discharge. The vessel will return to New Zealand for Homeward load-

The *Union Company's steamer Mapourika, which was thrown into the ■ ferry service between Lytteltbnand Wellingtonas a substitute boat following the hold-up of the Maori, took up her usual run for New Plymouth just after midnight last night.

The C. and D. steamer Port Pirie, which is to sail from Lyttelton on Wednesday for London, via Panama, \y\l\ take as passengers— SFisses luttrell, Byng,'Chalmers, Eeston, and Mr. Tlnvaites.

The F. and S. liner Kent left Panama on the 28th January in continuation of her voyage from England to Xew Zealand. The vessel is due at Auckland on the 27th February. •"
