ORGAN RECITAL
After the usual year-end- interval— preceded by a number of. otter interruptions owing to-the hall being .otherwise engaged—Mr Bernard F , Page,: City Organist, resumed his weekly recitals at ths Town Hall omi. Saturday evening It has been announced that for the future an effort will be made to keep the hall free on Saturday nights for these recitals, and if the civic authorities are' in earnest in'wishing to make the Town Hall organ ? -means of public education arid recreation, it is absolutely necessary that this promise should be consistently adhered to Saturday evening's recital was a great success in -every way. The audience' was-;, in the circumstances, encouraging as regards numbers, and showed excellent appreciation of the fine, programme presented and of the masterly performance' given. The new works rendered were Ravel's heart-searching Pavane "pour, une Enfante Defunte" and a Prelude An'ciem (No. 5) by Baton, both of which will become favourites when, heard again. Other numbers played weire Beethoven's well-known "Coriolao" overture, which never fails to make an impression ; the stately Fantaisie in A and th« magnificent "Piece rleroique," both written by Franick specially for the opening of the great Trocadero/ organ in 1878; the C Major 'Toccata and Fugue of Bach, with its notable pedal passages and its lovely adagio in the relative minor; and Rebikoff's psychological poem "Le Genie, et la, Mort," in which Mr. Page gave a distinguished rendering of the composer's remarkable conception.
