CONSTANTINOPLE
EVICTION OF THE TURKS
DEMAND RELAXED BY BRITAIN
AND FRANCE,
(Received January 12, 2 p.m.J PAEIS, 10th January. The Peace Conference is discussing the Turkish problem. It is understood that Britain no longer insists that Turkey must be cleared out of Constantinople. The War Office and the India Office support this on the ground that the British Army is not able to police the Moslem countries if they axe agitated by a supposed attack on the Kalifate: French opinion also favours the retention of the Sultan at Constantinople, though the Allies should control the Dardanelles.
