THE RATIFICATION
The Prime Minister has received formal advice of the ratification of the Peace Treaty. The effect of the ratification, so far as New Zealand is concerned, will be that the Samoan mandate will be confirmed. The terms have already been made known to the Government, but the mandate could not be issued until the treaty was disposed of.
With regard to "War Legislation and War Regulations, nothing will be done until the proclamation is issued, announcing the end of tho war with Germany, as provided for by statute. The expiring legislation in most cases terminates six months after the proclamation is issued. Before that period is over it will probably be, necessary to provide permanent legislation for some of the reforms which were enacted as emergency measures. For example, there are important regulations designed to safeguard ]jf e on ships.
