Advertisements in the Swiss _ newspapers appeal for pastors and priests to cross the Swiss-German frontier for a short period in order to marry young couples in the southern German towns., where an epidemic of marriages is raging. For the last six months the German pastors have been overwhelmed with work, and have been unable to cope with the rush. Marriages have had to be postponed for months. Registrars are as busy as the pastors. A number of couples, tired of waiting, are crossing the Swiss frontier to bo married, first obtaining permission to stay in Switzerland from two to ten days. A large percentage of the couples consist of war widows and young officers and soldiers recently demobilised.
