ENSURING BRITISH CONTROL.
The following communication was issued recently at Liverpool by the "White Star Line:—"At a meeting of the Oceanic Steam Navigation Company, Limited, held in Liverpool, the chairman, Jlr. Harold Sanderson, stated that the meeting had been called to ratify an agreement recently entered into with this Admiralty and the Board of Trade, and to consider proposals for the alteration of the Articles of Association to enable such agreement to be carried into effect. The proposals before the meeting, if adopted, would place on record and embody in the constitution of the company the practice hitherto followed under which the management and operation of the steamships would be and remain in the hands of the directors, who had always been British citizens, and residents in this country. In regard to directors to be hereafter appointed, provision was being made for their being acceptable to the Board of Trade. On this basis His Majesty's Government placed on record that the company, was not to be considered a foreign-controlled company. This proposals were carried unanimously."
