MENT.

Mr. Liv Shih Yuan, the Chinese Consul for New Zealand, has received from his Government a cable dated the _6th inst., informing him that the widespread report that a. number of' Chinese students were killed or injured in a confikt with the Japanese residents at Fooehow'has been found, after investigation, to be without foundation in fact. The Japanese battleships at Foochow were withdrawn on the 4th January. The differences will be settled amicably. The cable further adds that there is no truth in the rumour that the Shantung question will be settled with Japan atone.
