, . ■ LONDON, 10'tK October. _ A cadet college Has been established'for the 'purpose of affording special education to candidates iorjcommissions in the -Royal Air Force. It is intended excliisiyely for those who desire' to make tliis their permanent profession in life. TEe limits of age for admission to the college- will be from 17£ to 19. years, with, the exception of those who have served or are serving in, the forces; and are rec'o/nmendect by.their. C.O. ior a permanent commission iii the R.A.F., in which case,the upper age limit will be 2i. All applications for: the .printed, form of application for admission to the examination, should be made to" the .secretary, Civil Service Commission, JJurlingifcon Gardens, Londo"ii, W.I. . . The obligatory subjects the entrance examination,are English, English .History and. geography, elementary itiathe-' ;satifcs, fend one mbdefii language; .Optional sutfjects are Latin; tfre'efe, another modern language, mathematics, (elementary, intermediate; aiid higher), science, and elementary engineering. AU the objigatory. subjects must be .taken, .but not irio'fe thin three of the .bptibnal class, and; candidates to qualify will be' expected to' obtain not le'ds tfisfi 33 per ce'iit. of the total marks allotted in, each of the fbnr dblifatriry subjects. Extra' marks' will be received if candidates hold certificate A from the 0.T.C., or if tliey have served in the seiiibr division of the 0.T.C., or if they have completed four months' continuous service as oificers, warrant officers, br nb'n-conmris'sibiied officers, and me'ti in the services.. A certi,ficate to this effect must be furnished on a form supplied t» applicants by the Civil Service Commissioners!.

College1 diifihg tlii iir^t y«tr will include : —English literature and language, the British Empire, practical mathematics (including jrigchahic^ dnd drauglitsmanship); general, elementary scierlce, history of the' R.A.F.j butl.ine of Army and Navy organisation,. anH characteristics of the various arms .. and typos of ships,.map reading., E.A.F. liw and admimstratioUj drill (vVith rifles/, and physical training, hygiene aid sanitation, practical jvork in the workshops, the Morse code) passenger, flying with instruction in., map reading, and use of compass arid macfcine-gun. During the. second year the course will be: —Theor.etical. aha, practical insirttction in engines,, including magnetos and their management, theory of flight, practical rigging, advanced work, in wood snd metal workshops, wireless telegraphy and telephony, machine, and Lewis gun, and instruction in aviation.
It is interesting,to.note that a. Certain number pi: prize cade'tships will; be awarded ,to successful competitors in order of merit at the. examination* .these to carry certain emoluments and financial benefits, and they have been designed to give assistance to those standing in need of the attached emoluments.. The terms of payment ai-e at the iho'ment under consideration.
It is needless to add that .each candidate for a cadets'hip must be m'edicklly exarilinecl. ■
