FEDERALELECTION

TWENTY-ONE SEATS

DOUBTFUL

PECULIAR POSITION IN

TASMANIA

(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.—COPYRIGHT.) (Received December 18, 9 a.m.) SYDNEY, TKis Day. » The state of parties now is : Nationalists 30 Labour 1 20 Farmers ...; 4 • Doubtful 21 . The first preference Senate votes are hot expected to be completed till Saturday week, whfen a start will be made with the final scrutiny. . SYDNEY, 17th December. Although several candidate's have improved their positions, there is no actual alteration in the Federal electiqn figures. An unusual state of affairs exists in Tasmania, where the indications are that unless the unexpected happens, five seats in the House of Representatives and four Senate, vacancies will be filled by the Nationalists and the Farmers, leaving the Tasmanian Labour Party without representation for the first time in its history. This is attributed to preferential voting, which in some quarters is regarded as unsatisfactory. The counting is practically exhausted, except for the absentee votes. A big decrease in the number oi informal votes is noticeable.
