CHAIR OF CHEMISTRY
MR. P. W. ROBERTSON'S APPOINTMENT.
The announcement was made at a meeting of the Victoria University College Council last evening that tHe vacancy caused by the resignation of Professor Easterneld from, the Chair of Chemistry had been filled by the appointment of Mr. P. W. Robertson, M.A., M.Sc, Ph.i>., at present Lecturer in Chemistry at.whe Imperial College of Science and. Technology, South Kensington. The Chairman drew attention to the fact that this Would make the fourth member'of the Professorial Board who had graduated in the New Zealand University He considered it a matter for deep satisfaction that sucli an important post was being filled by an old student 'of the College. Sir Epbert Stout and other members expressed the same view. ( Mr. ,P. )V. Robertson is a soil of Mr. Donald C. Robertson, Public Service Commissioner, and is 35 years of age. He was educated at Ponsonby and Terrace (Wellington) Schools, and Wellington Coll if p. Since 1800, when he v;as dux of tha last-mentiotied institution,' he has had a most successful career, attaining many honours. Gaining .a Junior University Scholarship. in 1900, he entered Victoria College the following year, and among his successes were the Sir George Grey Scholarship, Senior University Scholarship, B.A. examination paSa, M.A. examination pass (first-class honours in chemistry), and the Jacob Joseph j Scholarship. The honour of being elected Rhodes Scholar went to Mr. Robertson ill-1905, and among his numerous sub-
sequent successes were the following: — B.Sc. examination (New Zealand), M.Sc. examination (New Zealand, resident, in England), B.A. examination, Oxford (first-class honours in chemistry), mati-i----clilated University of Leipzig, and Ph.D. examination, Leipzig (first-class honours in chemistry, physics, %id mineralogy, the thesis also being accepted with firstclass honours). He was elected (in 1905) an honorary scholar of Trinity College, Oxford, ( and later | Exhibitioner of the same College: Mtthy instructive papers by Mr. Robertson have been published in New Zealand journals. For some time he was officiating Professor of Cherhistrv at Rangoon College, Burma.
