UNPRECEDENTED CASE
APPEAL TO; RESTORE-A DEATH
SENTENCE.
(DOTTED MESS ASSOCIATION.—COPtItIGHT.)
(AUSTRALIAN - NEW ZEALAND CABLE ASSOCIATION.)
LONDON, 15th December.
A man was sentenced to death at Chester in October fov murdering a thirteen-ysar-old 'giil, while drunk. He appealed to the Criminal Court, which reduced the charge to manslaughter, and sentenced accused to twenty 'years' penal sen^tude on the ground of misdirection regarding the effect of drunkenness on bis mental condition.
The Crown has now appealed to the House of Lords. The Attorney-General argues for restoring the death sentence. It is believed that such an appeal is unprecedented.
