GRAND OPERA SEASON.
The feature of the moment in musical circles just now'is, of course, the J. C. Williamson Grand Opera Company. Next Monday night -will mark the opening of the season at the' Grand Opera House, when a performance of "Faust" will form a fitting, introduction of the company to Wellington, for the opera will present Australia's brilliant young prima donna, Amy Castles, in her most notable role. Wellington opera lovers have already had the pleasure of hearing Miss Castles as Cho-Cho-San, in "Madame Butterfly " Additional interest will be added to the opening performance by the first appearance in New Zealand of Walter Wheatley (tenor), Alfredo Valenti (basso), and Raymond Loder (baritone), all of whom have come <from America with the highest reputations. The second production of the season, on Tuesday evening, will be Offenbach's brilliant opera. "Tales of Hoffman," which will be- staged for the first time in New Zealand. There is enough real music in this opera to evoke the- respect of many generations to come. Puccini's beautiful opera "La Boheme," with Amy Castles as Mimi, will bo Bung on Wednesday night. All the stars of the company, the grand opera orchestra, and chorus, will appeal- in a sacred and classical concert on Christmas Night. "II Trovatore" on Friday and "Madame Butterfly" on Saturday will complete the first .week's programme. The box plans are now open at the Bristol.
