FEDERAL ELECTIONS

THE REFERENDUM ISSUES.

(Received December 16, 3 p.m.)

SYDNEY, This Day,

Mr. WSilace, the Labour member, who surrendered the safe West Sydney nomination, to Mr. Ryan, was defeated for Nepean. , Small as the referendum .figures still are, tho trend is such that it is practically a foregone conclusion . that the issues will be defeated. . Apparently the electorates have accepted the idea that Mr. Hughes already possesses or can take sufficient power under the Constitution to deal adequately with'the matters desired without a further extension.
