GOLD IS DEAR
VERY HIGH PRICES REACHED,
LONDON, 14th December. Fine gold is quoted at £5 lis 3d pet ounce, a record since the Napoleonic wars. Tha advance is largely due to India buying keenly, following on the Government raising the price of the rupee to 28d.
[The standard price of fine (pure) gold, based on the amount in a sovereign, is £4 4s 11.d.]
