YACHT RACES
Points races for first, second, and third class yachts wero held by the Port Nicholson Yacht Club last Saturday. About the time of tho start the_ wind veered from a light northerly to a light southerly, which increased during the afternoon. Several yachts were delayed in starting owing to the shifting wind making manoeuvres getting under way difficult. in the crowded boat harbour. Misty, conditions and Tain during the race made the boats invisible from the Clyde-quay Wharf for tho greater part of the race. The first-class rice resulted in a handsome win for Mr. B. Clarke's Marangi. The second-class race was won by Mr. G-. M'Lean's lolanthe, and the third-class by Mr. Crawford's Warehou. Tho results were as follow : — ■
Fir3t-class: Marangi (9min), 4h 48min lOsec, 1; Kotiri TI. (Smin), 4h 52min 45sec, 2; Viola (16min), 4h 53min 20sec, 3. Also ftarted: Waitangi . (scratch), 4h 54min 20sec ; Rona (Bmin), 41i 55min : Ailsa jll mm.), 5h Bmin 30sec; Wairere 11. (14min), 5h Smin 31sec; and Atalanta (13min), did not finish.
Second-claoS: lolanthe (lmin), 5h 3min 45sec, 1; Galatea (3min), 5h 4min, 2; Lizzie (omin), 5h smin 15sec, 3. Also started: Windward (lSmiu), 5h lOmin; and Wnirero I. (scratch), 5h 19min 30sec.
Third-class: Warehou (scratch). sH<lmin 30sec, 1; Nikau (smin), 5h 18min, 2; Muritai (llmin) did not start.
